Last night our church hosted Analogue Dialogue, an open mic event with music, vignette, poetry, and more for the wider community. I’ve always wanted to attend an open mic and was excited for this first opportunity. I had no idea what to expect, I thought it might be something like a talent show. But it was much deeper, much more meaningful. In a sense, the purpose of this event was for those of us in the church to LISTEN to and rub shoulders with those who may be very different from us. The topics covered in the poems and songs dealt with heavy but important issues such as racial and social justice, homelessness, growing up gay in an Asian family, suicide, depression, addiction, death of a loved one, the joys and trials of foster parenting, and more. It was amazing.

Plus, we had delicious coffee from Onyx Coffee Lab from Arkansas (where Pastor Justin is from) and savory and sweet bites (the savory ones even included Thai basil from my plant!)
