Manzanar Pilgrimage 2025

On Saturday April 26, 2025, we drove 4 hours each way to attend yesterday’s Manzanar Pilgrimage. I probably mentioned to you before that my (Vicki’s) parents met and married in Manzanar and most of my relatives were also sent there. We met up with my sister, niece and cousins over there since they took one of the busses from LA. Some of my cousins flew in from other states, including Texas and Maryland. It was a great turnout, around 2,000 people, including many school groups. It was so very cold and windyย  ย but I’m glad we finally were able to attend this important event,ย especially in times like these. Here is more info about the Manzanar Pilgrimage in case you can attend in the future: The Manzanar Pilgrimage is an annual event held at the Manzanar National Historic Site. It is open to the public, including formerly incarcerated people and their families, and aims to ensure that the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War Il is neither forgotten nor repeated. The program includes speakers, cultural performances, an interfaith service, and Ondo dancing.
