While most people are baking Christmas cookies or putting the wreath on the front door, we are thinking about how to split our time between Hawaii and Las Vegas (mostly to be closer to family) starting next year. The plan has gone through many iterations. The latest is that, for a year or two, we may try to rent out our house and while we are on the mainland or back for visits in Hawaii, we would mostly try tent camping or car camping in an SUV.
Since we plan to rent out the house empty (not furnished), we’re arranging for the military to move us one last time, so they would pack up our household goods, transport it to Las Vegas and briefly store it for us. After 3 months, we would need to pay for the storage. So now we are in a major downsize and declutter mode. After a couple of years, if this idea was too crazy, we could be back in our house as “normal”. Or we could continue to be more mobile and travel light and/or eventually find a small place in Las Vegas…We’re praying for God to direct us.
